Ally McBeal actor Peter MacNicol is to appear in the sixth season of hit TV show 24, according to reports.
The actor will play a high-ranking government official in the US drama when it returns in January 2007, the Hollywood Reporter said.
MacNicol played lawyer John Cage in Ally McBeal from 1997 to 2002. He received three Emmy nominations for his role, finally winning in 2001.
Producers of 24 are reportedly planning to shoot the next series in New York.
