Lily Allen scores number one hit

Singer Lily Allen has topped the UK singles chart with her song Smile.

The 21-year-old nudged Shakira's Hips Don't Lie into the second spot after it spent just one week at the top of the singles chart.

Allen - who has built a solid fan base on the internet - entered the chart at number 13 last week based on download sales alone.

Razorlight rose to three from 15th place with In The Morning, while Nelly Furtardo slipped to four with Maneater.

This week's highest new entry was Last Request by Paolo Nutini at number five, while Sandi Thom's I Wish I was a Punk Rocker fell two places to sixth.

Allen's witty songs about life in London have made her one of the biggest new stars of the year.

Her career has been given a leg-up by the social networking site MySpace and her debut album Alright, Still, will be released on 17 July.

In this week's album charts, Muse stormed straight in at number one with Black Holes & Revelations.

The Kooks climbed one spot to two with Inside In/Inside Out while the Zutons' Tired of Hanging Around climbed two to three.

Last week's number one, Liberation Transmission by the Lostprophets, slipped to fifth, while Keane's Under the Iron Sea fell two to four.
