Saturday, November 6, 1999 Published at 09:40 GMT Entertainment Gingers 'having a ball' ![]() The couple deny it's an elaborate publicity stunt DJ Chris Evans and former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell have confirmed they are a couple. Virgin Radio boss Evans, 33, ended 48 hours of speculation as to whether the ginger pair were an item or the focus for an elaborate publicity stunt when he told The Mirror: "Hopefully it will go on forever." Geri, 27, told The Sun: "I've never been happier - everything has come together and it's fantastic." The interviews effectively ended days of silence from the pair. They teased listeners desperate for confirmation of their affair when they took to the air waves together on Evans's Virgin Radio morning show on Friday morning.
And Evans asked the eight-year-old caller: "Will I do for now? Can I look after her until you grow up?" However, speaking in Saturday's Mirror, Evans denied suggestions that the whole sensation was a PR stunt. He said: "You only have to look at us to see how happy we are. We're both having a ball." The DJ said the pair had been seeing each other for 16 days, visiting every bar and restaurant in London and feeding the ducks in Hyde Park. He added that they were amazed it had taken so long for news to leak out. Geri told The Sun: "Chris is great and very sweet, a fascinating person. I'm very content. "I'm a bit stressed but it's all been worthwhile. This week has been one of the maddest of my life." She will discover on Sunday whether her latest single, Lift Me Up, has beaten former Spice Girls bandmate Emma Bunton's cover of What I Am to the number one slot.
