BBC series Life on Mars is to be re-made for the US by Ally McBeal creator David E Kelley, say reports.
Life on Mars is set in the 1970s
ABC has commissioned a pilot based on the UK series in which John Simm plays a modern day cop who wakes up in 1973 after an accident, says Variety.
The series was a British success with ratings of around seven million viewers and strong reviews.
Kelley is one of US TV's best-known writers and created series Boston Legal and Chicago Hope.
Life on Mars was made for the BBC by independent production company Kudos, who will act as executive producers on the US pilot.
A second series has already been commission for the UK.
No cast members have yet been named, reported Variety.
