Tenor extends opera director deal
Placido Domingo
Domingo recently cancelled performances because of ill-health
Tenor Placido Domingo has been given a five-year contract extension as general director of the Los Angeles Opera.

The 65-year-old Spanish opera star - one of the renowned Three Tenors - will now remain in his post until 2011.

Domingo joined the company as artistic director in 2000, before being promoted to general director in 2003.

He has been the Washington National Opera's general director since 2003 and is due to return to performing with the New York Metropolitan Opera next month.
