Jackson lawyer reveals trial toll
Michael Jackson
Jackson suffered ill health during his four-month trial
Michael Jackson was admitted to hospital after the verdict in his child abuse trial, his lawyer has revealed.

The singer, who missed his father's birthday at the weekend, has not been seen since he was cleared in June.

"He was dehydrated, he had lost a tremendous amount of weight, he was having trouble keeping food down," lawyer Thomas Mesereau said.

He added the star was "terrified" about what would happen to his children and had a "recurring back problem".

'Perpetual target'

Mr Mesereau, who represented Jackson throughout his four-month trial, said he had not spoken to the singer in recent weeks, but they had been in contact since the trial's conclusion in June.

The lawyer said that he did not believe Jackson would settle any future allegations out of court, and expressed fears that he could be a "perpetual target".

"There still is a perception among some people that he doesn't want to go to court and will settle," Mr Mesereau said.

"We will be fighting any of these suits all the way if they happen," he added.

Mr Meserau, speaking on the BBC World Service, said he hoped in the future Jackson would steer clear of welcoming families into his Neverland ranch, to avoid any further legal wrangles.

"I advised Mr Jackson not to let any families in his home again," he said.

Jackson was acquitted last month of molesting a teenage boy, plying him with alcohol and conspiring to abduct.

He was plagued with ill health during his trial in Santa Maria in California, suffering from back problems, dehydration and flu-like symptoms, which required visits to the local hospital on at least three occasions.
