Ex-Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown will be among the performers
A new music festival will take place in the north-east of England, featuring both live bands and DJs.

One-day event Hi:Fi North will feature singer Ian Brown, band Maximo Park and DJ Paul Oakenfold among others.

It takes place at Matfen Estate near Newcastle on 27 May, and a simultaneous south of England event is planned.

"This is something that we believe will suit the more eclectic music tastes of the 21st Century perfectly," organiser James Algate said. Tickets cost £52.50.

'Indie and dance heroes'

Guitar band Editors and DJs Audio Bullys, Erick Morillo and 2Many DJs will also appear at Hi:Fi North.

"We want to give our guests the opportunity to see their indie and dance heroes performing side-by-side for the first time," said Mr Algate.

Billed as "the first major music event of the season", Hi:Fi North will also feature non-musical acts and local bands.

The event was founded by Angel Music Group, responsible for dance music festival Global Gathering which last year drew more than 40,000 people to Long Marston Airfield near Stratford-upon-Avon.

Organisers said they would announce details of two-day event Hi:Fi South soon.
