Tom and Nicole voted sexiest couple

"Glamorous, sexy and obviously deeply in love"

Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman have been voted the sexiest couple in showbusiness.

The Eyes Wide Shut stars and real life husband and wife beat 49 other couples, including Posh Spice and David Beckham, in the poll conducted by the magazine Heat.

But they did not figure in the votes for on-screen chemistry, which was won by Kathleen Turner and William Hurt in Body Heat.

More than 1,400 readers registered most votes for Cruise and Kidman as "glamorous, sexy and obviously deeply in love".

Second place went to Hollywood boyfriend and girlfriend Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston.

Third were Spice Girl Victoria Adams and her football-playing husband David Beckham, and fourth were actor Hugh Grant and his long-term partner Liz Hurley.

In fifth place were the twice-married Hollywood veterans Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor.

This Morning presenters Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan made it to 39th in the readers' poll, just ahead of the now-defunct item Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow and behind heart throb Joseph Fiennes and This Year's Love star Catherine McCormack.

Entertainers Bruce Forsyth and Anthea Redfern got to number 49, but Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee did not get enough votes to register.

The much-dated but apparently currently unattached Robbie Williams also failed to be listed, but his ex-partner Natalie Appleton made number 31 with new lover Jonny Lee Miller.

Meanwhile, the screen couples list was chosen by industry professionals including Barry Norman, Richard Curtis and Sean Pertwee.

Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall's 1945 outing in To Have And Have Not made it to number two.

George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez were placed at number three for their performance in last year's hit Out Of Sight, one place ahead of Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette in 1993's True Romance.

Tom Cruise made 16th place with Kelly McGillis for Top Gun.
