Dame Edna's a Broadway baby

Dame Edna aka Barry Humphries, surveys the Big Apple
Cross-dressing comic Barry Humphries is to take Dame Edna Everage to Broadway, for the final leg of the housewife superstar's North American tour.

The Australian will make her Broadway debut at the Booth Theatre on 17 October in her one-person show, Dame Edna: The Royal Tour.

The star has already performed on the West End stage and appeared in numerous TV shows, most notably her own chat show, The Dame Edna Experience.


Graceland holds its first Elvis auction

Elvis Presley fans from around the world have gathered in Las Vegas for Graceland's first auction of items belonging to the late, great singer.

Around 5,000 personal items, including keys to the fabled Memphis estate, his Bible, barber's chair, Texaco credit card, 1956 Lincoln Continental and handgun are to go under the hammer.

Proceeds from the sale, being held at the MGM Grand Hotel, will go on homes for the homeless in Memphis. Up to $3m (1.8m) is expected to be made.


Frank Butcher is Londoner of the Year

EastEnders character Frank Butcher, played by actor Mike Reid, has been named Londoner of the Year in a poll of 2,500 of the capital's residents.

DJ Chris Tarrant was voted London's favourite broadcaster and Notting Hill screen-writer Richard Curtis was honoured for keeping the city at the forefront of world culture.

Tennis star Tim Henman was named London's favourite sportsman, while easyJet tycoon Stelios Haji-Ioannou won the Entrepreneur Award.

The awards were sponsored by London Electricity.


Dougray may lose role in X-Men movie

Scottish actor Dougray Scott has until the end of next week to finish his work in Mission: Impossible 2 or will face losing his part in X-Men, reports say.

Scott has been signed up to play Wolverine in the star-studded comic book-based adventure, which began production in Los Angeles last week.

But Scott has spent longer than expected in Australia filming his role as the villain in the Mission: Impossible sequel because of a shoulder injury and script problems.


Reagan may have ended up as trash TV host

One-time actor and former US President Ronald Reagan may have ended up hosting B-grade TV shows if it hadn't be for his wife Nancy, says their son, Ron.

In an interview for current affairs programme 60 Minutes, Ron reckons his mother had much more ambition.

"I think if left to his own devices, he might have ended up hosting Unsolved Mysteries on TV or something," he said.

"I think she saw in him that stuff that could be president and kept pushing."


Nicholas back on the box with sunburn

Just Good Friends star Paul Nicholas is making a TV comeback in the New Year when he joins the cast of BBC One's holiday rep drama Sunburn.

The 53-year-old, who will play charmer David Janus, the head of the Janus holiday firm, has been on the stage since Just Good Friends ended in 1986.

Sunburn's star Michelle Collins will be reunited with former EastEnders co-star Sean Maguire for the new series.

He returns to acting after a singing career to play a cocky rep.


Clarkson signs up for a new deal with BBC

Jeremy Clarkson has signed an exclusive three-year deal with the BBC, it has been announced.

The former Top Gear presenter has clinched a new series of his BBC Two talk show Clarkson.

He is also developing a Saturday night entertainment show in addition to documentary ideas.

"It's been a long and bloody bidding war between the BBC and the Rotherham Advertiser, but I am delighted with the outcome," said the 38-year-old.
