Bradby named ITV political editor

Tom Bradby has been appointed political editor of ITV News, following Nick Robinson's departure to the BBC.

Former political correspondent Bradby is currently UK editor at ITV News. He will be joined by Daisy Sampson as chief political correspondent.

Sampson appears on the BBC's Daily Politics show and has a daily talk show on London radio station LBC.

Last month, ITV expressed annoyance at the poaching of Robinson to replace the departing political chief Andrew Marr.

ITV News editor-in-chief David Mannion called it "astonishing" that the BBC "could find no-one amongst its vast army of journalists deemed good enough to be political editor".

"Tom Bradby and Daisy Sampson are both formidable political journalists and their appointment signals a change in the way we intend to report political matters in the future," Mr Mannion said on Wednesday.

"The rest of our team will not be confined to Westminster. I want them out and about in the country connecting politics with the people."

Andrew Marr quit after five years as BBC political editor to take over Sir David Frost's Sunday interview show.

Sir David, who interviewed big names on Breakfast with Frost for 12 years, retired from the show in May.
