Oscars panel: Scott Christie

Some would say that the Academy's been brave, I think they've just been canny with the nominations spread.

Not blowing my own trumpet, but my predictions were pretty close to the outcome. However, there were a few real surprises.

Walk the Line missing out to Munich for film and director seems so wrong, though it doesn't surprise me as it's Spielberg.

Terrence Howard is the surprise that I said may happen in the actor category and I'm glad as he's a fine actor that deserves more chances.

Congratulations to Keira Knightley, though why she's there is beyond me as I have seen far stronger and braver female performances.

The two supporting acting Oscar races should be incredibly close.

My one worry is that members may spread the votes and the best may lose out (ironically enough) in a political sense.

So on to the Writers Guild of America awards and our own Baftas...
