Some great developments, but an awful lot of mysteries.
The Good:
Amy Adams! She's won a lot of critics' awards this year, but I was worried she'd be overlooked by the Academy. Her performance in Junebug was one of my favourites of the year.
Bennett Miller for Best Director? Fantastic. What an honour for a first-time feature director to be nominated alongside Steven Spielberg and Ang Lee.

Good on Noah Baumbach. The Squid and the Whale had some of the best dialogue I've seen/heard in years.
The Bad:
No Walk the Line. In favour of Crash and/or Munich?
No Laura Linney. She was outstanding The Squid and the Whale. Not nominating her is a crime.
The Huh?:
Where is Mad Hot Ballroom?
And C.R.A.Z.Y.?
Why is there so little love for Match Point and Transamerica?
William Hurt was hilarious and bizarre in History of Violence, but Oscar-worthy? The mind boggles.
A good mix, I think. I wonder if Peter Jackson and George Lucas are feeling sorry for themselves though.
