Double jazz triumph for Carroll
Jamie Cullum
Jamie Cullum's award was voted for by readers
Jamie Cullum, Acker Bilk and Liane Carroll were among the winners honoured at the BBC Jazz Awards.

Singer and pianist Carroll won two awards - picking up best vocalist and best jazz artist.

Cullum won the Radio 2 artist of the year, voted for by listeners, while Tony Kofi was awarded the Radio 3 jazz line-up title.

The fifth annual awards, hosted by Paul Gambaccini, were held at The Mermaid Theatre in London.

A special award, introduced for the first time, saw clarinettist Acker Bilk handed the Gold Award.

The best band award went to Acoustic Ladyland, a male quartet who cited Miles Davies and Duke Ellington as influences alongside The Ramones, Jimi Hendrix and The Doors.

Canadian jazz pianist Oscar Petersen received the lifetime achievement award from broadcaster Michael Parkinson.

The rising star award went to Gwilym Simcock, pianist and French horn player.

Presenters on the night included John Dankworth, Mica Paris, Humphrey Littleton and Chris Barber.
