DJ duo JK and Joel are to take over BBC Radio 1's early morning show - the slot where current breakfast host Chris Moyles got his break at the station.

Jason King and Joel Ross, who already host the station's Sunday chart show, will replace Nemone Metaxas.

Moyles hosted the 0400-0700 slot when he joined the station in 1997, turning it into a cult favourite before he took over the afternoon show a year later.

JK and Joel will take over the Monday-Thursday show from 26 September.

Radio 1 controller Andy Parfitt said: "JK and Joel are Radio 1 talents. They've got engaging personalities and a real sense of fun.

"They've done a great job on the new chart show and we felt it was time that our audience got to hear a lot more of them."

JK and Joel, who joined Radio 1 from Manchester station Key 103 last year, said in a statement: "This is a slot we intend to make our own. We've got the brilliant mix of new music and we now want to stamp our personality on the show."

Nemone Metaxas, who has also been a regular stand-in for Jo Whiley, will be leaving the station after five years as a result of the changes.

Parfitt added: "We are always sad to lose a team member and Nemone has been brilliant in her five years at the station, I've been impressed with he recent work on Radio Five Live and I wish her all success for the future."
