Ballerinas win Spanish arts prize

Ballerinas Maya Plisetskaya and Tamara Rojo have been awarded the prestigious Asturias Prize for the arts.

It is the first time dance stars have been given by the coveted Spanish award in its 25-year history.

Veteran Russian dancer Plisetskaya, 80, and Royal Ballet star Rojo, 31, were praised for their "perfect technique".

Previous winners of the award included Spanish guitarist Paco De Lucia, painter Miquel Barcelo and US film director Woody Allen in 2002.
