Live 8 organisers have unveiled plans for a concert in Tokyo, to join other shows across Europe and North America.

Icelandic singer Bjork, US band Good Charlotte and UK pop group McFly are on the bill for the event, to take place at the 20,000-capacity Makuhari Messe.

The shows are part of a campaign led by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise awareness of poverty in Africa.

It will be Bjork's first headline appearance in two years. Admission to the event will be free.

Other shows around the world will include events in London, Paris, Berlin, Rome and Philadelphia, and have been timed to coincide with the G8 summit of world leaders in Gleneagles, Scotland, which begins on 6 July.

Live 8 Japan organiser Lily Sobhani said: "We can't believe the willingness of all involved to make this extraordinary event come together at such short notice.

"The line-up is fabulous and Live 8 Japan is hoping to be a momentous addition to the global series of events on 2 July."

Live 8 Japan will be the first concert to take place on the day, and will start at 1400 local time (0300 GMT).
