Street set for funeral tears

Gary Mallett lays his beloved wife Judy to rest

ITV chiefs are hoping Coronation Street's ratings recovery will continue when heart-broken Gary Mallett buries his wife Judy in a tear-jerking episode on Friday.

The storyline has dominated the soap since last weekend when Judy was found dead outside their home.

Viewing figures for the veteran show have increased by around three million to more than 16m over the past week.

But now Gary is out for revenge after discovering that a dodgy car sold by Street villian Terry Duckworth is responsible for Judy's death.

While the Street is in mourning during the episode, Terry Duckworth tries to get rid of the evidence which led to her death.

Vera and Jack Duckworth's son steals the faulty car he sold to his mother as friends and family lay Judy to rest at Weatherfield Parish Church.

During the funeral tearful Gary, played by Ian Mercer, lays teddy bears on the grave of his wife, played by Gaynor Faye.

Judy was a passenger in the car when it crashed and later died of a brain embolism.
