White Stripes star marries model
The White Stripes
The White Stripes recently won two Grammy Awards
White Stripes singer Jack White has married his girlfriend in a canoe on the Amazon in Brazil.

The 29-year-old singer-guitarist married British model Karen Elson, 25, on Wednesday, his publicist confirmed.

Meg White, the rock band's drummer, was a maid of honour at the service, which was conducted by a Shaman priest in the Amazon basin.

White's wedding comes weeks after his former partner Renee Zellweger married country star Kenny Chesney.

Catholic blessing

Elson, who appears in the band's latest video Blue Orchid, is a highly successful model.

A statement on the band's website said: "Karen Elson and Jack White were married yesterday [1 June] on the confluence of three rivers - the Rio Negro, the Solimones and the Amazon - by a traditional shaman priest on a canoe at the exact point where the three rivers met.

"The ceremony was immediately followed by a blessing by a priest at a Catholic cathedral called Igreja Matric."

The service was attended by close friends and White Stripes manager Ian Montone was White's best man.

The White Stripes' fifth full-length album, Get Behind Me Satan, is released on Monday.
