Diaz sues tabloid over 'affair'
Cameron Diaz
The National Enquirer claimed Diaz had an affair with an MTV producer
Actress Cameron Diaz is suing a US tabloid over photographs it published with a claim she was having an affair.

Last month the National Enquirer said the pictures showed Diaz cheating on boyfriend Justin Timberlake with MTV producer Shane Nickerson.

The photographs were used to create a "fictional and fabricated story" which was "hugely profitable" for the tabloid, the Los Angeles case says.

The National Enquirer said it stood by its story.

'Insignificant meeting'

The legal action accused the National Enquirer of publishing a "sensationalistic" story and manipulating and misrepresenting the photos.

Hollywood star Diaz and Mr Nickerson said they were simply sharing a brief goodbye.

The meeting was an "insignificant and non-memorable occurrence involving co-workers and friends", they said.

The legal action was taken out on Wednesday on behalf of 32-year-old Diaz, Mr Nickerson - who works on Diaz's MTV show Trippin' - and Mr Nickerson's mother-in-law.

A National Enquirer spokesman said: "We stand by our story and the accuracy of our photos and will defend it aggressively."
