Doubt wins at Drama Desk awards

Brian F O'Byrne won best actor for Doubt
Broadway play Doubt has picked up five Drama Desk Awards, adding to the many accolades it has already won this year.

John Patrick Shanley's production won best new play at the New York awards as well as best actor for Brian F O'Byrne and best actress for Cherry Jones.

The Monty Python-based Spamalot won best musical, while The Light of the Piazza collected five awards.

The Drama Desk is made up of theatre journalists and critics and author and actor Harvey Fierstein hosted them.

Doubt, which had already won the Pulitzer Prize for drama, won best supporting actress for Adriane Lenox and best director for Doug Hughes.

Among the awards for the musical The Light of the Piazza were best musical actress for Victoria Clark and best musical set design.
