Actor Todd Carty is quitting his role as an evil policeman on The Bill after two years with the ITV show.
Carty joined The Bill in 2003
Carty, 41, is best known for playing Mark Fowler in EastEnders, where he spent 12 years.
He joined The Bill in 2003 as Pc Gabriel Kent, an officer who raped and murdered a colleague.
A spokeswoman for The Bill said; "We are very sad to see Todd go, although totally support his decision and wish him well."
His final episodes will be aired in September.
Carty said: "From start to finish, playing Gabriel has been utterly fantastic.
"The storylines I've been given have been first-rate and although I will really miss playing him, it's about time that Gabriel got his comeuppance!
"I can't wait to see justice being done - Gabriel being forced to pay for his crimes will be the most exciting turn of them all."
Carty has enjoyed a TV career lasting more than 30 years, with his big break coming as Tucker Jenkins in Grange Hill. From there he starred in the spin-off Tucker's Luck.
He joined EastEnders in 1988, replacing the original actor who played Mark Fowler who had committed suicide.
He was written out of the show in 2002, with the character leaving Albert Square so he did not put his family through seeing him die from an Aids-related illness.
