Rock star Pete Doherty has been arrested by police on suspicion of possessing class A drugs.

Babyshambles singer Doherty, 26, was stopped while driving a car in Ealing, west London, early on Wednesday.

A police spokeswoman said officers stopped the vehicle because it was being driven "in an erratic manner" and recovered "substances" from the scene.

Doherty was taken to a west London police station and released on bail. He is due to report back in January.

The spokeswoman said police had stopped a car in Cleveland Road, Ealing.
