Rapper-producer Kanye West is to be given the artist achievement award at next month's Billboard Music ceremony.
Kanye West's albums include Late Registration and College Dropout
West will receive the prize, awarded in recognition of Billboard US chart success and artistic achievement, in Las Vegas on 6 December.
Billboard magazine co-executive editor Tamara Conniff said West, whose hits include Gold Digger, had "transformed modern music".
Previous winners include Aerosmith, Rod Stewart and Madonna.
Only eight artist achievement awards have been presented since 1993.
The Billboard awards are presented in recognition of the year's leading artists and songs as determined by performance on Billboard's weekly charts.
West's Gold Digger, featuring Jamie Foxx, was number one in the Billboard singles chart for 10 consecutive weeks before it was knocked off this week.
Last year West won four Billboard awards, including rap artist of the year.
West rose to prominence by producing songs for artists such as Jay-Z and Alicia Keys.
