Posthumous release for ODB album

The album which was being made by US rapper ODB before his death last year is to be released in the US.

A Son Unique by the musician - also known as Ol' Dirty Bastard - will be issued in June.

The record, which features Missy Elliott and Macy Gray, was launched in New York alongside a new documentary about the star's life.

ODB - real name Russell Jones - died of a drug overdose in November 2004 at a recording studio in Manhattan.

The as yet untitled documentary charts his release from prison in 2003 after serving a sentence for drug possession and escaping from a rehabilitation centre.

The programme, which is likely to be aired on MTV, also shows his subsequent signing to Roc-a-Fella records and performing in the studio.

Rap producer Damon Dash said he was initially reluctant to release the posthumous album following ODB's death at the age of 35, but was pleased with the outcome.

He added that the album's release was not intended to cash in on the legacy of the late rapper, who was formerly a member of the Wu-Tang Clan.

Fans of the hip hop star will be given the chance to remix the track Dirty Dirty, to be used as the flipside to a future single release.
