Doherty robbery charges dropped

The former Libertines singer spent four nights in prison in February

Blackmail and robbery charges against former Libertines singer Pete Doherty have been dropped.

Charges against musician Alan Wass were also dismissed by the Crown Prosecution Service due to "insufficient evidence for a realistic chance of prosecution".

Doherty, 25, and Wass, 23, were arrested on 2 February after an alleged dispute with documentary film-maker Max Carlish at a central London hotel.

Doherty spent four nights in prison before being released on bail.

Curfew observed

Doherty's bail conditions required him to observe a curfew forbidding him to go out between 2200 BST and 0700 BST.

However, those conditions were relaxed on 22 February to allow him to perform with his current band Babyshambles at the Brixton Academy in south London.

At the gig he was involved in an onstage fight with his guitarist Patrick Walden.

Doherty and Wass, guitarist for the band Left Hand, had been due to appear at a preliminary hearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 18 April.

But a CPS spokeswoman said their lawyers had been informed by letter that their cases had been discontinued.
