Poppins stage show heads for US
Mary Poppins
Laura Michelle Kelly took on the title role on the London stage
The lavish stage production of Mary Poppins is to get a Broadway run.

The musical based on the PL Travers novel and the Walt Disney film opened in London's West End last December.

Disney Theatrical Productions said Mary Poppins will premiere at New York's New Amsterdam Theatre next November.

The show, brought to the stage by Cats producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh, features new songs and music by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.

Richard M Sherman and Robert B Sherman won Oscars for their work on the 1964 film's score.

Laura Michelle Kelly, who took on the lead role in the West End, won an Olivier Awards in February for best musical actress.

Casting for the Broadway production is yet to be announced.
