The wedding ceremony, which was originally scheduled to take place on Saturday, is believed to have been changed to Wednesday after a newspaper published a story about the forthcoming marriage.

David Jason, who played Del Boy, brother of 38-year-old Mr Lyndhurst's TV character Rodney, attended the ceremony along with a small group of family and friends.

The Rev David Parker, rector of St Mary's Church, in the village of Lavant in West Sussex, said the 40-minute ceremony took the form of a "traditional Church of England service".

The landlady of the local pub in the village, Janet Close, said a number of guests called into the Royal Oak to change into their suits in the toilets.

"We had quite a few people in the pub. There were quite a few guests, although no one we recognised from television," said Ms Close.
