Police said a handgun was found in Manhattan hotel Flatotel, in a room in which the rapper had been staying.
Sticky Fingaz, whose real name is Kirk Jones, was not licensed to carry a weapon. He was subsequently arrested.
Jones, 35, was a member of rap group Onyx and appeared in 2004 movie Flight of the Phoenix. He currently stars in US television series Over There.
The drama series, about US soldiers in Iraq, features Jones as a character named Smoke who joins the army to avoid a prison sentence.
