Taylor returns home

Elizabeth Taylor: Has suffered from health problems for years

Screen legend Elizabeth Taylor has been released from hospital where she had been treated for a back injury following a fall.

The 67-year-old actress went home from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Sunday, her spokesman, Warren Cowan said.

Taylor is recovering well from a compression fracture of a vertebra and undergoing physical therapy at home, he added.

Her recovery is expected to take several weeks.

Taylor broke a bone in her back in the accident at her Bel Air home on 19 August.

Her doctor, Patrick Rhoten, diagnosed Taylor, as having suffered a "compression fracture of the 12th thoracic vertebrae."

The actress has suffered a string of health problems and has undergone more than 20 surgical operations in her life.

She first injured her back in 1944, when she was thrown from a horse during the filming of the show jumping movie National Velvet.

In 1998, she fractured a vertebrae in a fall at her home.

The year before, she had a benign tumor removed from her brain.
