Hip pain makes Fonda cancel plans

Jane Fonda had daughter Vanessa with Roger Vadim
US actress Jane Fonda cancelled an appearance at the premiere of a film about her ex-husband after going to hospital with hip and back problems.

Fonda, 67, pulled out of going to the screening of the documentary about Roger Vadim at the French Riviera resort of Saint-Tropez on Monday.

A spokeswoman for Saint-Tropez said the Barbarella actress had undergone "exams" at a local hospital.

Fonda was expected to attend a second screening of the film on Tuesday night.

The spokeswoman said that flying to France had left Fonda with the back and hip pain on Monday.

Married director

The screening of the 90-minute documentary Vadim: This Billionaire of Happiness went ahead as planned.

Political activist Fonda, who has previously had a hip operation, was married to Vadim from 1965 to 1973. He died in 2000.

Vadim directed her in sci-fi spoof Barbarella, which was released in 1968.

Fonda is due to spend several days in France to promote the publication of her recent memoirs.
