Jodie Foster's new thriller Flightplan has flown to the top of the North American box office chart.

The movie, in which Foster stars as a mother who loses her child on an aeroplane, was estimated to have taken $24.65m (£13.89m) on its first weekend.
Tim Burton's Corpse Bride jumped from 23rd to second place, with last week's number one Just Like Heaven in third.
The weekend's top 12 films took an estimated $89m (£50m) in the US, a 51% rise over the same period last year.

It also represented a 26% rise compared to last weekend, US box office tracker Exhibitor Relations said, continuing an upward trend in ticket sales after a disappointing summer.
Burton's animated musical Corpse Bride, which features the voices of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, jumped up the chart on its first week of nationwide release.
Roll Bounce, a 1970s roller skate movie starring rapper Bow Wow, made its debut in fourth place.
