Artist Quentin Blake, who famously illustrated Roald Dahl's stories, has collaborated with 26 other artists on a new Dahl book.

Roald Dahl Songs and Verse includes unpublished stories by late Charlie and the Chocolate Factory author Dahl.

Blake asked artists including Posey Simmonds and Gerald Scarfe to work with him on the book, published in October. Illustrating books such as The Witches, Blake called his working partnership with Dahl "a match made in heaven".

Lauren Child, creator of Clarice Bean and Axel Scheffler, the illustrator of The Gruffalo, are also among the contributors in the new book.

'Dahl's gems'

The publishers describe the book as a collection of "both familiar and unpublished gems from Dahl's work" which is "lavishly illustrated".

It includes popular stories such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears (taking from Revolting Rhymes) alongside lesser known work such as The Shark.

The book is divided into seven sections, and each opens with an illustration by Quentin Blake.

Roald Dahl was born in Wales in 1916. He was in the RAF during World War Two and writing about his experiences as a fighter pilot led to him becoming a children's author.

Children's writer and illustrator Quentin Blake was made a CBE in the New Year's Honours list.

He has also created characters of his own, such as Mister Magnolia, and his books have won many awards.

He also became the first ever Children's Laureate in 1999, a role which aims to highlight the importance of children's literature.
