Jools Holland married his long-term partner at a private ceremony near their home in Kent on Tuesday.

The musician and TV presenter, 47, wed sculptor Christabel McEwen, 43.

They have been together for 15 years and have a 14-year-old daughter called Mabel. Both of them also have children from previous relationships.

The wedding at St James's Church, in Cooling near Rochester, was attended by stars including Ringo Starr, Robbie Coltrane, Stephen Fry and Dawn French.

Other guests included comedian Lenny Henry, singer Lulu, actress Jennifer Saunders and her husband Adrian Edmondson.

Former Beatle Starr arrived by helicopter while the bride made her entrance on her son's arm, wearing a cream dress with gold detail and carrying a bouquet of cream roses.

Holland, formerly of pop band Squeeze, wore black tails and a black top hat.

The newlyweds and their guests celebrated after the ceremony at a reception at Cooling Castle.

Publicist Dan Walsh said the couple had to get a special licence for their marriage because the 200-capacity church is currently out of service.

'On the map'

"It was a nice casual affair," he said. "All the local residents were out in force."

"Jools is a member of the village and we love him," said one female onlooker.

"We want to see the celebrities really, something we don't do in this part of the world as a rule. Cooling's on the map at last," she added.

Holland's TV career began alongside Paula Yates presenting Channel 4 music show The Tube in 1980.

He now regularly presents his Later... show on BBC Two and plays piano with his own band, Jools Holland's Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.

Holland was made an OBE for services to music in November 2003.
