Singer and actress Queen Latifah will be hosting the proceedings at the 47th annual Grammy Awards.

She will host the music awards ceremony from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on 13 February.

The 34-year-old is also up for an award in the best jazz vocal album category for The Dana Owens Album, which uses her real name as its title.

Rapper Kanye West has received the most Grammy nominations with 10, followed by Alicia Keys and Usher with eight each.

"Queen Latifah is an extraordinary renaissance artist with unparalleled style and substance, and her passion, talent and personality make her an excellent choice as host for our show," said Neil Portnow, president of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

Latifah was nominated for an Oscar in 2002 for her supporting role in the musical film Chicago.
