Stallone's mother on Big Brother
Jacqueline Stallone
The "surprise" ninth contestant has said she intends to win
Sylvester Stallone's mother has joined her former daughter-in-law Brigitte Nielsen on Celebrity Big Brother.

The arrival of astrologer Jacqueline Stallone came as a surprise to the eight original housemates, who began living together on Thursday.

Ladbrokes has set Stallone's odds of winning the 50,000 prize at 8-1.

During her son's two-year marriage to Nielsen, the Rocky star's mother said she wished for an earthquake and for Nielsen to "fall in the crater".

The couple divorced in 1987.

Holby City star Jeremy Edwards is 2-1 favourite to triumph at the end of the programme's 18-day run.

On Friday, the celebrity contestants make their first nominations for the housemate they want to be the first to leave the Big Brother house. The two with the most nominations will then be put to a public vote.

The contestants were told that, as a new arrival, Stallone, who said she is 71, is immune from being nominated for eviction.

However she will be permitted to "influence" the decision of the others.

For every 50p vote cast by viewers by telephone or text during the programme's run, 9p will go to a tsunami charity appeal.
