US actor Wesley Snipes is suing the city of New York over an arrest warrant issued against him in a paternity case.

He says the city had no authority to seek his DNA and alleges the woman involved had a history of making wild claims against celebrities.

The lawsuit says the unnamed woman, who claimed to have had Snipes' child, falsely said they had sex in a crack house when in fact they had never met.

He wants to have the warrant nullified and to prevent his DNA being sought.

Snipes' lawyer Robert Bernhoft said the actor lived in Orlando, Florida, so New York City had no jurisdiction to file the arrest warrant.

The warrant was issued in 2003 following the woman's claim the Blade star was the father of her three-year-old son.

But he says the woman has made other accusations about famous people including Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey and Prince.

A lawyer for New York, Emily Sweet, said the lawsuit was being evaluated and she could not comment further but a hearing was scheduled for Wednesday.
