US rapper Young Buck has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon after a stabbing at the Vibe hip-hop awards ceremony in California in November.

The 22-year-old, whose real name is David Darnell Brown, is accused of stabbing a man who allegedly punched fellow rap star Dr Dre.

The incident sparked a crowd brawl as the show was being recorded.

Mr Brown, a member of 50 Cent's G-Unit crew, is free on $500,000 (257,000) bail until a hearing on 14 January.

Collapsed lung

If convicted, he faces up to eight years in prison. The victim, Jimmy James Johnson, has been charged with assault relating to the incident.

He suffered a collapsed lung following the stabbing and is currently in jail for parole violation.

It is alleged he hit Dr Dre in the face as the star was about to take to the stage to accept a lifetime achievement award at the ceremony in Santa Monica.

Mr Brown is signed to Dr Dre's record label as part of G-Unit. His debut solo album, Straight Outta Cashville, went in at number three on the US Billboard chart in August.
