Eden Project designer Nicholas Grimshaw has become president of fine arts institution the Royal Academy, after a number of high-profile resignations.

He replaced Phillip King, who stepped down in October citing ill health, at the 236-year-old academy which represents many leading UK artists.

Earlier this month Lawton Fitt left the senior post of secretary.

In July the body's keeper Brendan Neiland resigned following a probe into financial irregularities.
