Hollywood star Tom Cruise has denied his relationship with actress Katie Holmes is a publicity stunt.
Cruise worked the crowd in familiar style at the premiere in Berlin
"I have to laugh. It's just ridiculous," the 42-year-old actor said at the European premiere of his new film War of the Worlds, in Berlin.
"Something magnificent has happened to me and something extraordinary, and I'm so happy I just can't restrain myself."
A recent magazine poll in the US showed 60% of those surveyed believed the affair was a promotional stunt.
Holmes, 26, best known for her role in the hit TV series Dawson's Creek, stars in the forthcoming Batman prequel, Batman Begins, which opens in the UK on Thursday.
Holmes was in London for the Batman premiere earlier this week
She plays Batman's love interest, Rachel Dawes, following in the footsteps of Hollywood actresses including Nicole Kidman and Kim Basinger.
Cruise takes the lead role in Steven Spielberg's summer blockbuster, War of the Worlds, based on the novel by HG Wells and memorably adapted for radio in 1938 starring Orson Welles.
"It's just a great story," Cruise told reporters at the screening in Germany.
"I remember being a kid growing up and hearing about the HG Wells radio play and the effect that that had on society."
