Michael Jackson's lawyer, Thomas Mesereau, gave his reaction to his client's acquittal of child abuse charges on US network ABC's Good Morning America on Tuesday.
Thomas Mesereau says his client will "move forward"
I was convinced all along the jury would find him not guilty. I thought the prosecution's case was really ridiculous, and I thought they went to every absurd length they could to try to make something out of nothing.
I never told Michael Jackson I thought he would be found guilty because I never thought he would be found guilty.
We found him so stoic. It has been a terrible ordeal for him - he has had trouble sleeping. he
has had trouble eating. it was an exhaustive five months.
After the verdict, he was very grateful to the jury and very grateful to God. Very grateful to us. He thanked me. he thanked our entire team, and he also thanked his family.
Afterwards at the ranch he wanted to talk about his future. He was with his children. They all came and gave the defense team a hug. We talked to his family and we said some prayers. it was a very simple, solemn and very, very wonderful get-together.
Michael Jackson's going to move forward.
I was very worried about his condition. He lost a lot of weight. He could not sleep. we would talk sometimes at three in the morning, four in the morning. He took it very hard. It was a very, very excruciatingly difficult process for him and his family.
Michael is a very down-to-earth person, he's very honest and very genuine. He's actually very uncomplicated
I intended to have Michael testify. But remember, the jurors heard two hours and 45 minutes of a videotaped interview with Michael Jackson where he talked about his life.
He talked about these issues that were in the trial. and after we aired that video, I made the
decision, the prosecution just had not proven their case and would not win and decided to rest.
Michael is a very down-to-earth person. He's very honest and very genuine. You look at some of his interviews you will see someone that's being very, very honest about who he is and how he lives and how he doesn't live. He's actually very uncomplicated.
He's very honest and open about his upbringing, about the childhood he wishes he had had and
about why he thinks the world should spend more time devoted to its children - why adults have made this world a violent and at times very dishonest place. Michael is very down to earth.
