Rapper Young Buck is being sought by US police after a man was stabbed in a fight at the Vibe hip-hop awards.
Dr Dre accepted his award after the incident
Young Buck - whose real name is David Darnell Brown - is wanted following the stabbing of a man who allegedly punched rapper Dr Dre in the face.
"Brown is clearly depicted [on tape] as holding a knife after the assault", said police chief James Butts.
He said Buck, a member of 50 Cent's group G-Unit, was one of several people involved in a fight at the awards.
The man who was stabbed, named by police as Jimmy James Johnson, was taken to hospital where he is in a stable condition.
Lieutenant Frank Fabrega, of Santa Monica Police, said Mr Brown fled the scene shortly after the incident.
He added that a warrant was being prepared alleging assault with a deadly weapon for Mr Brown, who is signed to Dr Dre's record label as part of the G-Unit clique.
Police boss Mr Butts said Mr Brown was among several "fight participants" who were "pepper-sprayed by officers in their attempt to stop this fight".
"We're asking Mr David Darnell Brown to surrender himself to police."
Dr Dre was hit as he waited to go on stage at the ceremony, which was held in a hangar at Santa Monica Airport on Monday night, police said.
Snoop Dog and Quincy Jones were waiting to give Dr Dre an award
He was due to receive a lifetime achievement award from record producer Quincy Jones and rapper Snoop Dogg.
Mr Johnson allegedly approached Dr Dre, who was seated at a table in front of the stage, and appeared to ask for an autograph before punching him.
During the ensuing scuffle - which involved many of the 1,000-strong crowd - Mr Johnson was stabbed as he was being dragged away by security staff,
"It is unfortunate that an event so many people worked very hard to create has been tainted by the actions of a few individuals," said Kenard Gibbs, president of Vibe.
The Santa Monica Police Department said it dispatched every officer in the city to the scene.
The show resumed after the crowd calmed down and Dr Dre was presented with his award.
