McGregor tipped to be next Bond
Ewan McGregor
Ewan McGregor's next role will be on stage in Guys and Dolls
Scottish actors Ewan McGregor and Dougray Scott are the bookmakers' favourites to replace Pierce Brosnan as big-screen secret agent James Bond.

McGregor has odds of 9/4 for getting the role while Scott is just behind with 9/2 odds, William Hill said.

Bookmakers said Jude Law was lower at 10/1 after his recent film Alfie did not perform as well at the box office as had been expected.

Alexander star Colin Farrell has odds of 7/1 while MP Boris Johnson is 500/1.

British actor Clive Owen is also in the running at 6/1, while Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom shared Law's odds of 10/1.

Ewan McGregor 9/4
Dougray Scott 9/2
Clive Owen 6/1
Colin Farrell, Hugh Jackman 7/1
Ioan Gruffudd 8/1
Eric Bana 9/1
Jude Law, Orlando Bloom, Chris Feeney 10/1
Rupert Everett, Hugh Grant 20/1
Russell Crowe 25/1
Eminem, Robbie Williams 100/1
Boris Johnson 500/1

McGregor, who is to make his West End musical debut in a new production of Guys And Dolls, plays Obi-Wan Kenobi in the recent Star Wars prequels.

Scott starred in Mission Impossible II and Enigma, and there is increasing speculation over who will get the famous Bond role after Brosnan recently revealed he was "gutted" when the film's producers dropped him.

He has been recommending fellow Irish actor Colin Farrell for the part, but Farrell has said he is not interested.

William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said he fancied McGregor and Scott's chances, adding: "The public love a Scot. In the past Sean Connery has come top in people's favourite Bond and that can only help the chances of Ewan McGregor and Dougray Scott.

"Dougray Scott appears to be Scotland's choice and if he gets the call-up punters will be queuing all over Edinburgh and Glasgow."
