'Few clues' over rapper's murder
Jam Master Jay

Police investigating the murder of rapper Jam Master Jay say they have few clues to the identity of his killer, two years after his death.

The hip-hop legend was shot in the head at his New York recording studio on 30 October 2002.

Jay, whose real name was Jason Mizell, formed Run-DMC with Joseph "Run" Simmons and Daryl "DMC" McDaniels.

Police said inconclusive leads, reluctant witnesses and negative publicity had hampered the case.

Unsolved murders

Lieutenant Richard Bellucci, of the New York Police Department, said: "The case is progressing at a slow rate."

Investigators have said they are certain Mizell knew his killer, but not even a $60,000 (£32,7500) reward for information leading to an arrest has elicited a response.

His death is the most recent of numerous unsolved murders of hip-hop stars, including those of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G.

Run-DMC formed 20 years ago and went on to have hits with King of Rock, It's Tricky and a remake of Aerosmith's Walk This Way.
