Moscow welcomes Kill Bill stars
Quentin Tarantino
The director walked down a blue carpet across Moscow's Pushkin Square
Kill Bill director Quentin Tarantino helped open the Moscow International Film Festival on Friday.

Tarantino's Kill Bill Vol 2, starring Uma Thurman, opened the festival, with the director walking down a blue carpet in historic Pushkin Square.

Thurman and co-star David Carradine also attended the film, as did Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov.

Stars including Meryl Streep and Isabelle Adjani will also attend the festival, which ends on 27 June.

Seventeen films are in competition for the festival's main prize, three of which are Russian movies.

This year the festival has included a new contest called Perspective, open to directors who have made only one or two films.

The 24th festival is one of the most important events in the Russian film industry.
