Veteran broadcaster Sir Trevor McDonald has signed a contract that will keep him at ITV News until the end of 2005.
Sir Trevor has presented the last news for 14 years
Sir Trevor, 64, one of the UK's most respected newsreaders, will continue to present ITV1's late news bulletin.
He started presenting the channel's old flagship bulletin, News At Ten, in 1990 and launched current affairs show Tonight with Trevor McDonald in 1999.
Sir Trevor said: "I am delighted to have signed my next contract with ITV News. It is a wonderful place to be."
"We have a great team of journalists, editors and producers making the programme one of the most cutting-edge and informative news bulletins on British television."
David Mannion, editor-in-chief of ITV News, said: "Trevor is a remarkable man. I can think of no-one else on television who combines the qualities of authority, integrity and personal warmth.
"He has become part of the fabric of British life and he remains immensely popular with the British public. In many ways he has become the voice of Britain.
"I am delighted that he will be remaining with ITV News and Current Affairs."
