In a poll carried out by London's Madame Tussaud's Rock Circus, relative new kid Robbie Williams has been voted the singer we would most like to rock to on millennium eve.
Evergreen Sir Cliff Richard even polled more than Elvis with 8%. Nor was being alive a necessary condition of popularity. Queen's late frontman, Freddie Mercury, also beat "The King". The poll of a representative group of around 1,000 people aged 15 to 64 was carried out by the waxwork museum to help them keep a grasp on who's hot in the world of rock and pop. Fickle fans And, says the museum's Diane Moon, the survey shows that pop and rock stars should beware of resting on their laurels. "At Rock Circus we've found that everyone leaves with a different experience - and the results confirm that our attitudes to music are extremely emotive and uniquely personal.
For the moment, however, there are those who can do no wrong - and Robbie Williams is certainly one of them. He also fronts the Rock Circus poll's all-time super band, with heavyweight support from guitar legend Eric Clapton, Phil Collins on drums and Sir Elton John at the piano. Not surprisingly, Robbie's former number one Millennium is the top request for New Year's Eve. And along with Titantic songstress Celine Dion - voted top female vocalist - Robbie would be the pop star most of us would want to be for a day. Fame and fortune However, those out of favour along with Presley include Madonna and Michael Jackson. They were voted the least favourite singers.
But, contrary to popular belief, it's not the sex, but the money, fame and travel that we find so attractive about such a lifestyle. Most inspirational songs of the millennium were, in order, Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion and Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana.
