Richie to perform at Vietnam gig
Lionel Richie, Gloria Gaynor and Hootie and the Blowfish are among the stars who will perform at a Vietnam peace concert in June.

The UN-backed event will honour Joan Baez and Country Joe McDonald, who were anti-war campaigners during US involvement in Vietnam.

The televised concert on 22 June will open with a message from UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

Some of the proceeds will go to victims of the Vietnam war.


Pamela Anderson made US citizen

Former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson has been sworn in as a US citizen during a ceremony in Los Angeles.

The actress, who hails from Canada, said she wanted dual citizenship so she would be able to vote in the US.

"I have no intention of giving up my citizenship in Canada and am very proud to be a Canadian," she said.

The 36-year-old had to pass a US naturalisation test which her spokeswoman said she "passed with flying colours".


Film directors to honour De Niro

Veteran actor Robert De Niro will be honoured by US film-makers at the Directors Guild of America Awards show later this year.

De Niro is being recognised for his general contribution to US film culture and his work involving the New York film community.

The film star is the co-founder of the city's Tribeca Film Festival.

The presentation will take place on 29 September at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York.


Bianca Jagger faces flat eviction

Bianca Jagger, former wife of rock star Mick Jagger, is being evicted from her New York apartment.

Ms Jagger was served with an eviction notice because the Manhattan flat was not her "primary residence".

But Ms Jagger is suing her landlord for more than $11m (£6.21m), saying it was impossible to live in the flat as it was infected with toxic mould.

The human rights campaigner has already moved out of the apartment. The landlord was unavailable for comment.


Singer Estefan announces US tour

Cuban-born singer Gloria Estefan is embarking on her first tour in nearly eight years at the end of July.

The US Live and Re-wrapped tour will take in 27 cities including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston and Texas.

It will end on 24 September in Miami, where Estefan lives with her husband, producer Emilio Estefan.

"I'm looking forward to revisiting places that hold such beautiful memories for me," said Estefan, 46.


Hollywood agent Gersh dies at 92

Hollywood agent Phil Gersh, whose clients included Humphrey Bogart, Richard Burton, David Niven and Harrison Ford, has died aged 92.

Gersh is credited with persuading director Billy Wilder to cast Bogart in a romantic role in Sabrina.

He also prompted director Robert Wise to try his hand at a musical - Wise went on to direct The Sound of Music.

Gersh was also a founder of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art.


Passion gets US DVD release date

Mel Gibson's successful movie The Passion of the Christ has been given a US DVD release date of 31 August.

The controversial film, which has upset Jewish groups, has grossed $368m (£209.5m) at the US box office alone since its cinema release in February.

It became one of the US's top 10 biggest movies all-time.

The DVD will be distributed by 20th Century Fox, which originally declined to handle the film, along with all the other major studios.
