Puerto Rican pop star Ricky Martin is being sued for $63.5m (£35m) by his former manager for breach of contract.

Angelo Medina says Martin, 32, failed to live up to terms agreed upon when they ended their contract in September.

"We reject the allegations," said Martin's lawyer, Edgardo Cartagena. The next hearing is set for 13 August.

Mr Medina is counter-suing Martin after the star sued him for $2.5m (£1.4m) over advance payments for services allegedly not delivered.

Mr Medina said he parted ways with Martin to spend more time with his family.

He said he was to have continued managing Martin's career in Puerto Rico although not internationally, but the singer then broke all ties.

Mr Medina has expressed dismay over being sued by the star, whom he considered "a son".

Ricky Martin was one of the big winners at the Latin Billboard Awards in Miami last week, winning three prizes.

Martin, who became a sensation in 1999 with the song Living La Vida Loca, won Latin track of the year, top male Latin pop airplay track and top Latin album.

He told the audience his success was "beautiful, beautiful, beautiful".

Martin won the best track and male pop award for his song Tal Vez (Maybe).

In the hot Latin track award category he won over Puerto Rican singers Obie Bermudez and Chayanne and Colombian vocalist, Juanes.

Martin was nominated in five categories overall.
