Brown spent one night in jail before paying the money

Singer Bobby Brown will stand trial on charges that he hit his wife, singer Whitney Houston.

Mr Brown is charged with battery for allegedly striking Ms Houston in the face at their home near Alpharetta, Georgia, in December.

Ms Houston suffered a bruised cheek. In an Atlanta hearing, judge Barry Zimmerman ruled there was enough evidence to continue with the case.

No trial date was set, but fingerprints will be taken from Mr Brown in July.

He would then be released on bail of $2,000 (£1,140).

Mr Brown and his wife appeared in court, smiling at each other during the proceedings, and left the courtroom arm-in-arm.
