Daughter for Billy Bob Thornton
Actor Billy Bob Thornton's girlfriend has given birth to a baby girl named Bella, the couple have announced.

Thornton's fourth and Connie Angland's first child weighed in at 6lb 1.5oz, their publicist said. Angland, 39, and Bella are both said to be doing well.

Thornton's latest role is as a high school football coach in the upcoming film Friday Night Lights.

The 49-year-old divorced his second wife, actress Angelina Jolie, in May last year.


Elton John swears at Taiwan media

Musician Elton John swore at reporters and called them "rude, vile pigs" after being surrounded at Taipei's airport.

The star shouted expletives as he was mobbed by media upon arrival in Taiwan for a concert.

A photographer responded: "Why don't you get out of Taiwan?", at which John said: "We'd love to get out of Taiwan if it's full of people like you. Pig!"

Elton John will leave Taiwan after his first show there on Thursday. Recently, he performed in Hong Kong and Shanghai.


Release of Alexander film delayed

Warner Brothers has delayed the release of Oliver Stone's film Alexander, saying it wants to help the movie's chances of winning Oscars.

The film, starring Colin Farrell, had shared its 5 November release date with the computer-animated The Incredibles.

"We think that moving Alexander to November 24th positions it better for Academy consideration," a studio executive said.

The release is just ahead of the United States' Thanksgiving holiday weekend.


Robert Downey Jr album delayed

Actor Robert Downey Jr is trying to break into the music world with a debut album due to be released in November.

His record company, Sony Classical, says he sings eight self-penned pop songs and covers of Smile and Your Move, as well as playing the piano.

Downey sang Smile on the soundtrack to Charlie Chaplin, a movie for which he received an Oscar nomination.

Sony describes him as a "brilliantly, gifted songwriter" possessed of a "burnished, smoky voice".


Lifetime award for actor Garner

Actor James Garner has been chosen to receive the Screen Actors Guild's top prize, the lifetime achievement award.

The 76-year-old's six decade career has seen him play signature TV roles from Maverick to the Rockford Files, for which he won an Emmy.

He has also starred in films including Thrill of It All, The Great Escape and more recently The Ya-Ya Sisterhood.

Garner will be presented with the SAG's honour at its gala awards show on 5 February next year.
